I gave the book "Fireproof Hope" a rating of 4 out of 5. I based this rating on the content, the quality of writing, and very few mistakes in grammar and execution.
The author provided a new perspective on hope related to our happiness and well-being. He examined hope scientifically rather than the usually written spiritual view. I found the contrast very refreshing and informative.
The author begins the book post-Covid pandemic. I was able to relive the fear of the unknown, the anger at my loss of freedom, and the questioning in my heart and mind, "When will this be over?" Although my memories were somewhat painful, the author used these memories to remind this reader that there is always hope.
The author gives the reader a clear and concise understanding of the difference between wishful thinking and hope by providing the reader with four core beliefs of hopeful people. He further expands and expounds on each of these core beliefs. He continues this premise by giving the reader four foundational elements to enforce the four core beliefs. The author then reverse-engineered the foundational elements to demonstrate how each element functions to produce hope. The author proposes that hope can be replicated.
The author does not offer seven simple steps (his words) to a better life. He readily acknowledges that we must complete the task ourselves. The author provides possible outcomes when we choose to face and embrace challenges. He likens facing challenges to a gym workout. The more challenges we face and overcome, the more developed we are to meet future challenges, much like committed workouts build our bodies.
The author used many famous quotes in the book. Quotes by Maya Angelou, Ralph Waldo Emerson, Carl Jung, and Washington Irving, to name a few. I found the use of these quotes to be enjoyable and relevant. The author was very gracious in sharing his praise and noting the sources of the information he used to write this book.
In conclusion, this book is a challenging read. The author used some words that may require researching their meaning, as it was written from a scientific viewpoint. It is filled with helpful, detailed guidance on expanding our hope and grabbing onto it to enjoy happiness and well-being. This reader found the book to be well-written and highly thought-provoking.
