Children of Violence - Luke Gherardi

Drop yourself into the shoes of many different children who live their lives surrounded by violence. This is an interesting journey through the lives of people from all different backgrounds whose lives are all intertwined in a variety of ways. Prepare yourself before entering this world though, if you are not cut out for cursing or acts of violence against others then this book is not for you. Speaking to the acts of violence the first chapter begins with a graphic description of a murder the thoughts of one of the characters as she realizes what she just witnessed. If that did not scare you away strap yourself in for an interesting story with a surprising twist and an interesting cast of characters.

I give this book a rating of 3/5. I found the story fast paced and interesting with a great view of a city riddled with crime of every sort. I couldn’t give this a higher score due to a few flaws that I found in the writing and editing. One of my biggest issues was that I had a hard time telling the characters’ chapters apart since all the point of views were written very similarly. If possible I would recommend that the author takes a bit more care in differing their personalities or maybe changing the font to fit each character. One other take away was that there were many missing quotations around the spoken words by the narrating character. Aside from those few strikes against the book, I would still recommend this to the right person since it was a fun quick read.
