I have decided to rate the book a 4 out of 5 stars. I do appreciate the purpose of the book, which is to teach children about Heaven, Hell, and some beginner principles of Christianity in a way that is simple, fun, and age-appropriate. I enjoyed the use of actual bible verses within the text as it shows credibility and also opens the door for further bible study within the family unit. The language used was age-appropriate and entertaining for children of the correct age group. I also felt the illustrations were attention-grabbing and pleasing to the eye, which is important for a children's book. I rated this story a 4 out of 5 because I feel the goal of the book was achieved, despite some small concerns and/or changes. The biggest thing that might concern me is the portrayal of Hell within the book. While Hell is a real place that is important for Christians to understand, I feel it is important to teach children about God's love and mercy without scaring them into religion with scary images of Hell. It obviously would depend on each child's maturity, but I feel the inclusion of Hell and suffering in this story could be potentially damaging to young readers and give them the wrong impression of the point of the story. It is a very difficult concept to approach with young children and could potentially traumatize them. I feel a possible warning or disclosure to parents could be an addition to allow parents to decide if their child can handle that sort of content. Overall, I do feel this book does a good job of teaching children about Heaven and basic Christian principles. I just feel that there could be a content warning related to more sensitive content including in the book.
