In Snatched Up to Heaven! Jemima and Arvind Paul documented their children’s experiences visiting heaven and hell. Their four and two-year-old daughters, Priyanka and Deepika, claimed that angels carried them up to heaven while they were sleeping. The children claimed to go on multiple trips to heaven and even saw hell. Much of their visions aligned with the Bible’s descriptions of heaven and hell.
I enjoyed the format of this book. Jemima first described the girls’ visions and then tried to make sense of them herself, like an investigation of sorts. She was curious about what her girls saw and took them seriously. I appreciated Jemima’s continuous spirit of curiosity throughout her investigation. She broke down the girls’ descriptions piece by piece, comparing what they described to specific Bible verses’ descriptions of heaven and hell. The girls had wonderful experiences in heaven and conversed with God and Jesus. They got glimpses of the rewards their family would receive once they got to heaven. Conversely, the girls had harrowing visions of hell. I found it disconcerting to read about hell from a child’s perspective, although it was clear that Jesus was with them the whole time.
One could easily say that the girls’ experiences were part of their imaginations. However, Jemima maintained that the girls shared details they would have no way of knowing on their own. She was even surprised by some of the girls’ explanations and, upon her research, found that much of what her daughters described coincided with what the Bible says.
I give this book 4 out of 5 stars . The authors' thoughts were presented clearly and in an organized fashion. I found the book easy to read despite the unfathomable subject matter. It was intriguing to read all the beautiful and daunting descriptions of the afterlife through the eyes of children. Furthermore, I found no grammar mistakes while reading, but I personally think there were too many simple sentences. I would have enjoyed the book even more if there had been more variety in sentence structures, as this would have made the writing flow better in my opinion.
This book is intended for a Christian audience or for anyone interested in learning about Christianity. However, I think those who are not a part of the Christian faith could still find it an intriguing read.
