Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids by Jemima Paul with Arvind Paul is a good, pleasant illustrated book, though its length and messaging has its pros and cons.

Pros
The authors largely succeed in imparting a condensed summary of the Bible, and of Jesus, heaven hell, through colourful illustrations. In telling the story through the interaction of parents and two young daughters, is a great idea. This ensures that families with young children will instantly connect with the content. Also, allowing the kids, Emma and Bella to ask questions, and the parents answer them, makes for an engaging read.

Cons
Considering that this it aimed at kids, that’s a lot of text for kids to go through. Since the text only touches upon the concepts of heaven, hell and Jesus, the content could easily have been crisper and more precise. I hope the writers find a good editor and use more illustrations, if they plan another edition.

Also, in the PDF version I downloaded, the illustrations appear slightly blurred. The overall display quality definitely needs a glossier finish, as the best children’s books have.

Mixed bag
A picture book format with selective text would have made a more attractive, kid-friendly impact. That said, the current text is engaging. The conversations between the parents and their kids seem real and not forced. Using dreams as a source for the children’s questions is a great idea. That way the text doesn’t feel preachy or forced.

Summary
There is no profanity in the text or any sexual content (0 out of 5 – sexual content rating). I would give Snatched Up to Heaven for Kids three stars out of five stars. It is a fairly good children’s book to get kids introduced to the Bible. But more illustrations and trimmed text can make for a better, more fulfilling read.
