Review of The Sword Swallower and a Chico Kid
Gary Robinson's The Sword Swallower and Chico Kid delves into the world of the dangerous profession and explores the fervor and dedication of those who risk their lives for the entertainment of others. The book focused on two key characters as they navigated a challenging and frequently dangerous world.
Two men with a very large gap between them and a unique bond are the subjects of The Sword Swallower and Chico Kid. Duke is well-known for being able to swallow a sword, and Carlos Leal taught him how to do it at the circus. By inhaling five thirty-inch swords, he tried something different. Duke performs all over the world, and while he was in California, Gary, also known as Chico Kid, approached Duke after Duke's performance at the bar, and the two of them grew close. To live a happy life and make a living, Duke provided guidance. They shared a dysfunctional family and a similar upbringing, both of which led them to begin drinking at a young age.
I hope no one ever experiences what Duke and Gary did when they were young. Reading this book opened my eyes and made me realize how fortunate I am to have supportive family and friends. Since this book depicts people's struggles, I wish that everyone would learn to make better use of what they already have.
I liked the relationship that Gary and Duke shared; it was honest, and no one took advantage of one another. The book had some good advice in it, which I liked despite the excessive use of vulgar language. Additionally, I thought the book cover was appealing. I believe it gives readers a hint as to what to anticipate and what kind of characters they can expect.
Nothing was glossed over in this overly straightforward book. They used bad language a lot, which I didn't like. The writing and editing were exceptionally well done; this book was excellent. No errors were discovered by me, indicating that the book has undergone professional editing. I gave the book a score of 4 out of 5 stars because I thought it was a good read and had some valuable life lessons. Due to some of the book's nauseating details and the aforementioned unfavorable comments, I took away one star.
I recommend this book to mature audiences because it deals with drug use and uses a lot of obscene language. These components are inappropriate for readers who are younger. This novel would undoubtedly appeal to readers who like danger and circus performers.
