Patrick DeVaney's High Crimes Against the Crown presents an engrossing narrative set in 1982. The story revolves around various captivating themes including comedy, thriller, adventure, and love. At its core, the book follows Conor Caldemeyer, a dedicated police officer in a small town, who is compelled to take a leave of absence following an incident during his duty.

Subsequently, Conor embarks on a journey to Ireland alongside his closest friend, Alec. In Ireland, he encounters Billi, an Irish woman who strikingly resembles his long-lost but unforgettable love, Gwendolyn. This transformative trip evolves into an unforgettable experience as Conor becomes involved with the Irish Resistance movement due to his connection with Billi. Throughout the book, readers are treated to a whirlwind of events that elicit a range of emotions, often leaving them speechless at every twist and turn.

The author skillfully crafted Conor Caldemeyer, the protagonist, to possess a remarkable sense of humour, prone to making poor choices and adorned with flaws, which greatly enhanced the overall appeal of the book. I found this aspect immensely enjoyable. Furthermore, I admired the author's adeptness in providing vivid descriptions of events, enabling readers to form a crystal-clear mental image of the author's intended portrayal. Additionally, the author's depiction of love was something I genuinely valued and found noteworthy.

The book is truly captivating and highly enjoyable, although I couldn't help but feel that its length was a bit excessive. Nonetheless, its compelling narrative and rich characters made it an unforgettable literary journey. I would wholeheartedly recommend this book to those who have a passion for comedy, thrillers, love stories, and adventurous tales alike.

I gave the book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars due to its engaging and accessible writing style. Despite its length, the author skillfully maintains a sense of intrigue, leaving readers eagerly anticipating the conclusion while simultaneously wishing the book wouldn't end. Furthermore, the book’s exceptional editing and absence of errors contribute to a seamless reading experience. I eagerly anticipate Patrick Devaney's future literary works.
