Starting of the book Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War And Its Aftermath is rather slow and boring. This is because of various and continued conversations amongst seamen and that to heavily accented, which makes for a boring and difficult read.It should have been action i.e; events happening and conversation mix.

Throughout most of the chapters the various rendezvous with local girls, pub meetings, night club happenings and social life of sailors in Vietnam makes for a boring read. That's because there is a sort of overdose of such events. It should have been reduced considerably.Again the fight between sailors and marines in clubs is overstretched and unwarranted. It should have been kept to minimum.

The glimpse which we get about farm life, tree cutting and maple syrup making is good and knowledgeable, particularly for readers from other parts of the world like Asia.
Also the beach life from Bill's family is good and makes an interesting read.

I feel the events related to functioning of VA, legislation procedures about medical compensation of Vietnam veterans and agent Orange should have been in a little bit more detail keeping in mind the subject matter of this book.

But all in all the author has been able to weave a very nice and informative story about Naval warfare in Vietnam, the sailor's life onboard battle ships, the socializing habits of sailors with regards to local people, the farming life and a very personal and emotional account of what a sailor, particularly a Vietnam veteran goes through during his service and personal life.

Therefore on a scale of 1-5 I rate this book 4 out of 5.
