Review of Shitolian
[Following is a volunteer review of "Shitolian" by O Persaud.]
Shitolian, authored by O Persaud and released in 2019, presents a distinctive collection of poems that explore diverse themes such as racism, domestic abuse, prejudice, slavery, unplanned pregnancy, politics, and religion, all of which are prevalent in our contemporary society. The author's unbiased approach utilizes poetry as a powerful tool to raise awareness and offer sincere insights into pressing issues. Through this thought-provoking compilation, the author aims to encourage readers to reflect upon these problems and take action towards resolving them.
The book comprises a total of 56 poems, organized into four sections: "Shitolian," "The Creator," "The Colony," and "Punctuation." O. Persaud, the author of this anthology, fearlessly brings to light unsettling truths and emotions that often remain suppressed in today's modern society. These truths encompass issues like racial and class discrimination, religious beliefs, and various other societal challenges. By infusing his personal experiences and emotions into his poems, the author compels readers to confront these prevalent societal problems, which are frequently overlooked. With skilful employment of poetic devices such as similes, metaphors, and rhymes, the author effectively communicates his thoughts on the issues society faces.

I find no reason to dislike this book as it possesses several commendable qualities. Despite my general lack of interest in poetry, I am captivated by the way the author centres around various themes and subjects. The creative use of poetic devices, exemplified by the invention of the word "Shitolian," adds a unique and intriguing element to the book. Additionally, the author's skilful employment of language makes the text highly accessible and easy to comprehend, enhancing my overall enjoyment of the book.
I gave this book a rating of 5 out of 5 stars due to its captivating and eye-opening exploration of societal issues. It was exceptionally well-edited, error-free, and recommended for poetry lovers interested in topics such as politics, religion, hierarchy, and racism. Readers should be aware that the author's liberal writing style includes vulgar words that may offend sensitive individuals.
