Being punished for something natural and humane is really messed up, however it gets even worse when you get punished by way of your own creation. If that is not the perfect premise for a dystopia, I don't know what is.

This dystopian tale starts when Kim, the main character, gets sentenced to living in the crime-ridden and unsavory District 33. Her "perfect" life and outstanding career gone in the blink of an eye. District 33 is a nightmare, and she was in trouble from the minute she got there. With enemies she did not know and facing the decision of being a "good" citizen on its way to forgiveness or finally saying farewell to all she has ever known. Chosen the latter Kim set out to make a decent life for herself in the hellish city, as far as that was possible. Things looked like they were coming up rosy, she found a job, and some may say even stability, but this would not last long as Kim found herself thrown into trouble and racking up a decent list of enemies. In the mist of her perils, she comes to a place of refuge. You might think she finally got peace or was at least a step closer to figuring out how to get it but alas she only manages to get her herself into deeper and tumultuous waters that sent her right back to where it all began.

I would give this book a strong 3 out of five stars. I truly enjoyed the dystopian future and the highly prone to "bad" decision making main character, I do however feel that at times the book gets to "boring" places and dwells there for a bit too long instead of moving on with the story. It also has several typo's throughout making it seem as though the book was not well edited and for that I deducted 2 stars. But overall, The Prophecy of the Heron is an engaging fantasy novel. It draws you in and makes you feel part of its troubled world. The story has action, adventure and dare I say a pinch of romance here and there.
