Written by bestselling and award winning authors Jemima Paul and Arvind Paul, Snatched to Heaven is a beautifully illustrated book that can be used as an educator or parental resource to introduce the concept of Heaven, Hell, core Christian values and death.

The story is based on the real life events of four year old Priyanka Paul and her two year old sister Deepika. Snatched to Heaven is about an eight year old girl called Emma and her family, six year old little sister Bella, baby sister, Mommy and Daddy.

In six sections, the story tells the tale of Emma and her visions of her adventures in Heaven. The adventures cover topics such as, what does Heaven look like? God and Jesus. Angels. Heaven being a place of joy and peace, with no sickness and pain. The last topic covers what Hell looks like and who goes to Hell.

The gentle way the book covers the topic of death makes it a perfect foundation for a parent to ease a child’s worry about death by covering what happens in the Christian faith when we die. All concepts are introduced slowly to the reader, with beautiful clear text and bright and child friendly colourful illustrations.

The story contains direct quotes from the bible using 15 Bible verses, with helpful references. It is written in short and clear sections, which makes the book perfect for bible studies and home devotional improvement.

As delightfully charming the sections about Heaven are, the story also contains a graphic description of Hell which includes an image and description unsuitable for young children. As the bible teaches children will not go to Hell, Matthew 19:14, “the Kingdom of Heaven belongs to those who are like these children”, I would recommend parents read this section before introducing the book to younger children so they can give some context to the information and answer any questions that may arise.

The authors have used the bible quote ‘no two people look alike’ in their story, however the illustrations are exclusively white and to reach a wider devotional audience I would have liked to have seen more diversity in the illustrations.

I would rate this book 3 out of 5. One point lost for the too graphic description of Hell for the intended audience and another for the lack of diversity in the illustrations.
