Review of Just Die
Just Die by E Alan Fleischauer, is a fictional tale that traces the journey of Jake Silver, a survivor of a mild stroke. What will you do if you find yourself with the superpower to kill anybody by pointing a finger and saying the right words? Will you draw a line of morality and abide by it? Or will you cross the line? This book begins on an interesting note and takes you into a spiraling journey of Jake Silver's life. Conspiracies get revealed, unlikely friendships get forged, and everything gets better by the end. The tale is a mix of crime, politics, and paranormal activity with a hint of science. What would give you such power? To what extent would you go to explore and experiment with your powers?
I liked how all the interconnected tales, in the beginning, tend to merge into a grand finale. I admired the character, Omar Carter. The unlikely friendship between Omar Carter, Jake Silver, and Beth Ann is the beautiful part of the novel and the beginning of the ever-expanding magical journey of Jake Silver. We get a glimpse of how strong Jake’s morality is in the face of the adversary. The book is exceptionally edited; the plot goes at the right pace and builds momentum by the end of it. Like a true bookworm, you want to read it faster but not so fast that you finish reading it. This tale will always stay close to my heart, for I loved how Jake Silver maintained his integrity through and through.
The book has no index; I got engrossed in reading it and often lost track of the chapter I was reading. At some point, I felt that Jake's powers could be misused, but the author steered the story right out of the pitfall and into a more intriguing plot involving international politics. I would have loved to read more about how Jake's parents would react to the newly acquired power. I liked the snippet about Beth Ann’s parents.
The plot has spiked up all the neurons in my brain and let my imagination go wild while thinking of the reasons for his accidentally acquired power. It lingers on your mind for many days. I often find myself pondering over a possible scientific explanation for his superpower. I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars.
If you love to read paranormal tales, you should try reading it. It grows on you and makes you want to know more about Jake and his adventures throughout the book.
