Financial literacy is still given very little significance in today's education system. For this reason, many people do not realise the need to prepare financially for this stage of life called retirement. And if they do, they don't usually have the knowledge on how to go about it. On the other hand, there is a rising number of young people who are beginning to embrace the idea of retiring as early as 35 years. Let's face it, most people's jobs or lifestyle does not allow them to work beyond a certain age. That is why  E. Alan Fleischauer in his book Reconfigurement: Reconfiguring Your Life at Any Stage and Planning Ahead, seeks to educate people on this matter.

The author looks deeper into the following subjects that entail Reconfigurement: income, career and personal assessment, life protection, social security, retirement plans, investments, health insurance, long-term care, and 529 saving plans. Read this book for first hand information on these subjects and how they entail in planning for a better retirement.

This book is insightful and well explained. I like how the chapters are organized. This made the book easy to read and comprehend. The author further went on to give a brief history of some retirement methods and their pros and cons. He did not hesitate to share references and website links for anyone needing extra study in the various subjects. I personally enjoyed taking the online exercises on career and personal assessments.

I truly appreciated the light nature of the language used in the book. It was filled with jokes and puns that made the book very interesting to read. I cannot believe I'm about to say I had fun reading a book on finances but I'll say it: I had fun reading this book. Best of all, I understood most of what I read and can explain to someone else.

The book was well written and professionally edited. I did not come across any errors. I however found a few negative aspects. Being a financial book, there were a number of words not farmiliar to a layman. Footnotes and a glossary would have really come in handy. Also, I read the E-pub version of the book and there was a bit of an issue with the page margins and missing page numbers. I hope this was taken care of in the hard copies.

I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. The rating is not lower than that because, despite the negative aspects, that did not stop me from enjoying and gaining from the book as stated above.

The author recommends this book to people above 40 years but I think it should be read by any working person of any age. It's never too early to begin planning for retirement. If anything, the earlier the better. Also, the book targets American audience but I believe it can benefit anyone from any other country. One may however need to extrapolate some aspects to their own country.
