Review of Burn Zones
Burn Zones: Playing Life's Bad Hands is about the author, Jorge Newbery's challenging life experiences. In the beginning, things were going swell for Jorge, he was ambitious from a very young age and this set up his life as an entrepreneur. He took on difficult and harrowing tasks, one of the ones that stood out was the time he spent bike racing. The book details how the author went from a novice to riding with Olympians and winning races. It was as if I, the reader was right there riding alongside him, it was just that well explained.
After this, the story takes a fascinating turn and the author tells the reader about his journey up the ladder in the real estate business. He never missed an opportunity it seemed, he even took on risky deals with people who had mortgages that may never be paid back. He spoke of leaving his first real estate job, to form a small independent company, and then buying his own properties. This included Woodland Meadows in Ohio where things took a turn for the worst. An ice storm hit the property and the monetary losses were substantial. This caused him to go into serious debt and have to rethink how to work his way out of this mess.
This novel was an inspiring read and the author did a great job of capturing the reader's interest in the way they described the adventures and hardships of their life. Although many may not have been in the position of having a lot of money, the book is relatable because we all go through tough times just as the author did. I found this book to be very human and thought-provoking. It reminded me of my own ambitions and what it is like to have to deal with failures when they arise. Also, I found no grammatical errors while reading this novel, so it was edited well.
It is hard to find anything negative to say about this story. The only thing that comes to mind is that there are parts where it slows down a little too much. This takes away from the fascinating scenes that truly captivate the reader.
Overall, I enjoyed reading this book. I found it touching how the author described his relationship with his father, once again showing his humanity, another thing a reader can identify with. Considering how well the book was written and the interesting premise of the novel I am rating it a 4 out of 4 stars.
With how inspirational this book is, it is within the vein of self-help. I recommend this book to readers who are interested in non-fiction and novels about authors and their extraordinary lives. This novel would also be enjoyed by people who like to read books about people who have overcome obstacles and readers who are looking for something to read that they can relate to.
