A Dream for Peace is an autobiography of the author's life. He was born in Aïn Beïda, a small town in the province of Constantine in Algeria. At that time, French colonists were ruling over his country. Ghoulem Berrah was the only son of his mother after his other brothers and father had died. He was an intelligent student. So he went to France to receive higher education, but there, his political activities ramped up such that everyone assumed the cops had been tracking his every move. His relatives told him to stop his "political activism in France," but he didn't. He had to flee from France to Spain, suffer hardships and prison, fight a battle in Morroco for its independence, use his medical skills as a doctor everywhere he went, and even encounter near-death situations. Upon getting a chance to complete his education, he went to the US to study on a scholarship, where he became a scientist. He became a special adviser to Côte d’Ivoire's president, Houphouët-Boigny, and served for Africa. There, he found his love, and after the President's death, he retired to the US.

What made me most comfortable in understanding this book is myself as a Muslim. A few traditions and words were easy for me to comprehend. Therefore, I enjoyed this paragraph: When the author was in prison, the chaplain often came, and after the author sensed something, he said, “Father, I do not believe that you can succeed in converting me. If you’d like to continue trying, I can assure you that you’d have as much chance of converting me to Christianity as I would trying to convert you to Islam.” From that day, the chaplain never came, but the author missed the only other human in prison. No offense meant.

Although this book is 644 pages long, the time seemed to fly away as I was addicted to reading the amazing and unique story of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah. Overall, there was no topic I would have found a negative aspect. I found a few grammatical mistakes that reduced a star from the rating. This book contained no offensive or erotical scenes.

Because I like this book very much, I would have given it a complete rating. This book is enriched with history and struggles. But the grammatical mistakes force me to deduct a star. So my rating is 3 out of 4 stars.

This book is a source of motivation and courage, especially for students. This means I recommend this book to them. The struggles that the author show for the education of his country's students encouraged me to engage in my studies even better. Plus, this book is full of historical events and people that made a name in this world. So those, who love to read history, are recommended this book as well.
