The novel WILD WORLD by Peter S. Rush is a historical fiction based book. The novel dwells on the life of a young adult, Steve Logan, who was in the Kent State University, with few weeks to graduation and then off to Law school, but decides to give it up when four students were killed with nine injured during a protest of the Vietnam war in 1970. Due to this effect and the death of two innocent students who were mere passerbys, Steve sets himself to make a change. This decision became stronger after he met a police officer from New York, Durk, who persuades the students to make a change during a seminar.
The story goes forward when Steve decides to join the Providence police force and starts to make a change from his point. His decision was also based on the fact that he wanted to stay closer to the woman he loves, Roxy, as she had lost people who meant the world to her and he wouldn't want her to lose him too. He soon realizes that there is more to the corruption and the problems of the police force than he expected and his life as well as the lives of the ones he love stands on the line on his quest for transparency, justice and an effective operation in the police force. The question still stands if he will be willing to go as far as needed to make the system better and if his unfailing love for Roxy will stand the test of time as she too stops believing in him and starts seeing him as the uniform.
The prose of the author, Mr. Rush was one of efficacy. He was able to communicate the heart of the character with the reader. His diction and suspense is one to be applauded for as well as the story line as it take us through the world of the underworld, bribery and gunshots. His words made the character come to life in our minds and was both compelling and intriguing. They were believable, relatable and ideal. The connectivity of even the minute details to the page turning events was great.
I loved the creativity of the author towards the writing of this book. The trials Steve had to go through to get his desired results were one to note, as good things don't come easily. I liked the oppositions the lead character had to face in his journey to greatness as they were ones you'd love to hate. I loved the trying times the character went through to make him better, as well as length he went to, willing to lose all for the right course. In addition to all, it's admirable that even though the character didn't know his purpose or how to get there, he responded to the pull for the right things to be done.
I didn't actually have any dislikes from the book, other than the fact that some words had hyphens between them which is technically wrong in literary terms. Asides from that, I didn't notice any other errors.
This books deserves and I give it a full four out of four stars. I didn't give this book three stars or any other, because despite the hyphens between some words, it is not enough to deduct one star.
I recommend this book to anyone who loves the fight for what's right, love and a good guide to relax, thinking of the good old days of the 1970s or what it felt like. It's an amazing story and a must read. Happy reading!
