Review of A Dream For Peace
A Dream For Peace is a biography of the life and accomplishment of Dr. Ghoulem Berrah and his vision for world peace. Dr. Ghoulem Berrah was born to a Muslim family in Aïn Beïda, a small town in Algeria. His father died when he was still young, so the mother had to take over his wellbeing, particularly his schooling. Excelling well in his studies, he went on to study medicine at the university and practiced it for a while. He also joined the army and went to law school. From his university days, he started standing up for truth by helping to fight against racism. Gradually, he started to make his mark in the world as a freedom fighter and peacekeeper. He later became a special adviser and a close friend to the president of Côte d'Ivoire. He truly left a mark in the world in terms of science and politics. Not only that, but he was the first person to discover the synthesis of bacteria deoxyribonucleic acid in phenethyl alcohol. This discovery gave him recognition and award in the world of science. He got married to the love of his life, Titi, and they lived together happily.
There are a lot of things to love about this book. Although his mother was an illiterate, she understood the need of education, and she was able to raise him to be educationally sound. He didn’t only preach about peace, but also practiced it. He was a Muslim, and his wife a Christian, but they didn’t have any problem as regards religion. There was religious tolerance. He didn’t try to force her to join his faith, and vice versa. His book also contained research on bacteria that I believe a science student would find very useful. He made friends with both the high and low and tried his best to foster peace.
We also got his see his romantic side, I particularly find it endearing that he refers to his wife as 'my love'. This book also provided us with pictures to spice up the reading. In spite of all his great achievements, he was a humble man and always willing to serve.
There is absolutely nothing to dislike about this book. It was well written and full of facts. I couldn’t find any fault or error in the book, so I believe it was exceptionally edited. This book deserves nothing less than a rating of four out of four stars.
I believe everyone should give this book a try as it is a worthy read. I would, however, recommend it to all those interested in politics and history. Would-be leaders should also give it a try. Overall, I believe this is a book that can spur us on the path of peace.
