The author to the book, A Dream For Peace by Dr. Ghoulem Berrah, stands out among the great African diplomats who influenced and impacted the liberation and revolution of Africa from the confinement of the colonial rule and oppression. Born and growing in Algeria under the French colonial administration, the author experienced the pain of colonial rule subjugation and racial prejudice in the colonial administered schools.

He went abroad to France in a bid to pursue higher studies in medicine. Endowed with the love for his people, the author returned to care and serve his people with the skills and experience he had garnered overseas. While in France, the author joined several African student’s unions and movements that pressured for the liberation of the African continent. His boundless compassion and leadership disposition, earned him the chance to lead some of these organizations.

One of the outstanding qualities apart from his passionate love for his people, was his strong conviction in pacifism. He is a resolute and visionary leader who has achieved profound accomplishments both in education and in leadership. Having an extensive background in higher studies and connections to notable leaders elevated him to upper echelons of power. He shared a lot with great leaders and heads of state like the Ivorian president at the time, his Excellency president Houphouet-Boigny.

One of the features that I liked in the book was the author’s creative move to include pictures in the memoir which conveyed a brilliant and vivid description of the author’s odyssey. Presenting some of these pictures from his past, exuded a clear and relatable picture of those events which added more emphasis to the gist of reality in his story. I also admired some of the author’s aspects that arise in the book. I was inspired by his insatiable desire and conviction to liberate his people to a point of willing to go to prison for his conviction.

Consequently, I enjoyed reading this memoir and found it quite inspiring as well. I didn’t find anything to dislike in the book. As for the grammatical errors and typos, I didn’t come across any. I could tell that the book was exceptionally well-edited. Hence, I will rate the book 4 out of 4 stars.

This is a book that will entertain and appeal most to those readers who love reading inspiring autobiographies and memoirs. The book also holds great insights in the need for togetherness, humanity, and peace. It is a book that every aspiring leader should come across and take time to learn the great leadership insights in it and feel the great leadership enthusiasm that the book inspires.
