What does a girl's life mean to you in this generation? Are they just alive in this world just so that they could stand behind a man? How important are they to themselves other than serving others in their family? Do they not have any like of their own? Can a woman be ambitious and successful without a man? What could it take to break such stereotypes and practices in this world? Three Loves and Other Stories by Lata Gullapalli is a collection of short stories which touches on certain points related to the above such questions. The book contains several chapters which tell us the stories of different phases of a woman and their life complications and experiences. The author depicts one such story of the life of a woman being born into an average typical Indian family and culture who was taught to be respectful, responsible and always meet the expectations of the family and it is engraved into the minds of a girl that she could hardly voice over her opinions and concerns in her life decision matters. Coming out of such a toxic environment is very challenging only to find out that the world is even harder than what she had expected. So, she sets out in search of her happiness in the world. In the end, everyone is on the journey for happiness and the finding of it.

The author interestingly puts out some thoughts on these types of circumstances that everyone generally encounters in the world. I liked how the stories are unique in their way and help understand the challenges we face in our day to day lives. They teach us to choose ourselves over others and put our happiness at the top of our priority list because only we stay with ourselves forever and only we can make ourselves happier than anyone in the whole world. The author communicates the significance of making decisions for one's betterment in life and it is also a form of self-love. Sometimes the stories vividly pull you into it and sometimes they can be a tad boring. Nevertheless, it is worth reading all the stories as they have something to share with you.

There are two things I did not like about this book. Firstly, the editing for the book is done very poorly. I have found too many errors both spelling and grammatical errors. It is quite distracting while reading the book. Secondly, the author's writing style is not apt to understand. The conversations between the two characters in the stories are not properly quoted and have not been maintained consistently throughout the book. This instantly puts off the interest of the reader.

To summarize my thoughts on this book, with the above-mentioned points, I would like to rate it 2 out of 4 stars. I have found the stories interesting and insightful but my rating is solely due to the poor editing of a novel. I hope they improve the book by proper revising and following a uniform standard writing style.

I would recommend this book to people who love to learn about the life, understand its struggles at times and how to handle such circumstances in life. I hope it gives you a new perspective and you enjoy it.
