This is a story about a life coming into someone else’s and helping them in a way they didn’t think they needed. As they take their journey, you learn tidbits about each character and a tiny part of who they are. It even talks about why and how each character came into the other one’s lives, why they are all together in this story. Then when a child comes along, things change in all of their lives. What happens makes the oldest of the characters question what to believe about their heritage.
Many types of people in this world have their own stories and beliefs about their cultures. Over time, they are lost or forgotten by way of how time moves on or you learn the reasons of why they were forgotten in the first place. But things happen in everyone’s lives that bring us back to our cultures and beliefs. This story says to the reader that no matter where you come from, where your ancestors first settled, or what your beliefs currently are, your culture and heritage will always be a part of the soil that your people first settled on.
The positive aspect of this story is that it tells you there are times where what you believe to be true and what is facts, according to a scientist, are one and the same. You may figure out different ways of how it came to be or why you are here in the first place. But each story, when brought together, tell you that they are one and the same. It makes you think of the different stories and cultures. You can take away from this what beliefs lie with different types of people and how they can help us to understand one another.
There are not many negative aspects that I have found in this book. The only think that I will say is there are a few places where a word seemed to be missing in a sentence. Also, when it came to the chapter where a story was being told, it did not mention who was truly speaking this story. The flow of the story and details is what made this story flow and have you understood it.
This story would be part of the audience of young adult readers. This is a story where they would enjoy not only the message it brings, but the adventure and culture of the people this story is about.
My justification for giving this review the rating that I have, 3 out of 4, is based on a few factors. It spoke of how an old story came back to the present. If you bring someone to a place where they can learn about their past history and/or culture, you will learn so much about where you have come from. It is a well written and thought-out story about how different people can come together and figure something out that someone younger may have never known about. But when that younger person is there to help the older characters really embrace their cultures, it becomes a story about a lesson. One that a younger individual can help others to understand the real backstory and giving them what they truly experienced. Heart and passion went into writing this story, even the small details and background of the characters culture with how they come to this place. This story is not only about writing a message to the readers, but for the backstory of the author as well.
