Twisted But True, is a book written by Darren Burch, who has based this book on all his true accounts of his life and career as a Police Officer and Detective in various fields of the Police Force. It covers his life starting out with his first experience of a life and death situation at age 17 when he tries to rescue 4 passengers out of the twisted wreckage that catches alight. It continues on about his life path after he has to make some life changing decisions that is to always protect and serve as a Police officer and later on as a Police Detective.

I enjoyed each chapter as it described each of the scenarios of what he had to experience and how people in either their drunk and disorderly or depraved minds and distorted ways of thinking, that he would sometimes have to literally take the good with the bad and sometimes the ugly and gruesome scenes that he had to attend to. At the end of each chapter the twist was a nice touch to finish off and explain the outcome of each crime solved.

The various crimes mentioned are murder, rape, assault, robbery, drunk and disorderly conduct that would put him directly or indirectly in the line of fire. It also describes the police officers as a brotherhood and how they back each other up. They also play some pranks on each other, but that’s how it shows that they all face the same life as defending and serving. This book portrays a life well lived and how he has served various communities and how he was able to help justice to be served even when he was going through his own life tragedies.

The only negative I would have recommended is that the photos in the book would have been more effective if placed with each chapter that was mentioned with that particular person displayed in the photo. Other than this small observation, I cannot fault this book as it was fascinating to read of the true accounts of how some people can be absolutely stupid and downright criminal and think that justice will not prevail.

I rate this book 4 out of 4 as I found it interesting and not mundane as you would find in some crime novels. Each chapter was different and covered a different situation from either funny or sombre, but realistic. This book would appeal to anyone that is interested in crime solving, or wanting to have insight into a life of a police officer. It even touches on home life reality of someone in the military or serving their country and the various sacrifices and tough decisions that cross their paths.

Darren Burch did well in this his books. His life as a policeman is really interesting. Some of his stories were so funny, that I was laughing continuously while reading the book. Like when he tried to use Spanish to arrest a Hispanic man. That scene was hilarious. Thanks for an interesting review.
