Being a stock analyst, going for yet another business trip comes as no surprise to Frank Mason, a relatively handsome and thriving young man. He boards flight 2222 to Argentina just like he would board any other flight on any other day. On the flight, he befriends Helen Hampton, a woman who visibly has a crippling fear of flying. Reducing Helen's fear to just a preconceived notion, Frank tells Helen that "horror stories always have a way of becoming the norm, but statistics proved the opposite", little does he know statistics have a way of proving themselves unreliable and that Helen's fear was no paranoia. Contrary to Frank's beliefs, he soon becomes a victim of the plane crash. Surviving the crash, along with him, are Helen and seven other passengers who were picked up as part of a game by Helen and him while aboard. What astonishes both of them is how they could have guessed those passengers' names and occupations so accurately during the game. Something about this coincidence instantly strikes the wrong chord. What follows is a heart-wrenching story of survival, as these nine survivors are on the brim of sanity and are willing to take up every measure to live their normal lives again, even if it involves feasting on their comrades.

The Mystery of Flight 2222 comes as a surprise, even if the reader is all ready for the sickening events that the book is going to cover. The supposed "coincidence" makes it even more compelling, to the point where it gets hard to put the book down. Initially, it was hard for the book to enthrall me into its world of make-believe, but Thomas Neviaser pulled it effortlessly by offering little to no information to quench my thirst for some closure and successfully kept me on pins and needles. What's more is that each character stays true to their own nature, delivering exactly what is expected of them and never diverging.

But even after a promising storyline and engaging suspense throughout the story, what first captivated my interest into the events turned out to be a damp squib at the end, owing to the extra details it gave, which could have been edited out in my opinion. I wouldn't go on to say it is far-fetched, as the book has all the important aspects of a good, nerve-racking thriller.

There are some religious contents involved as well, but that wouldn't count offensive to any community. The writing style is easily understandable and the timing of events accurately set to create fret that wouldn't leave on its own. There are minor errors, which didn't ruin the story much and are interpretable.

Keeping all this in mind, I would give The Mystery of Flight 2222 three out of four stars. The reason being my high expectations, which weren't met exactly to the point. Nonetheless, a must read.
