Official Review: In Tune With Myself-ADivine Intervention
In Tune with Myself-Divine Intervention by Tiffiny N Jones is a book about hope and perseverance. Taking us through a childhood full of neglect and abuse, Jones does not hold back from readers in regards to emotions or each situation she faces. From childhood to teen to adult, Jones allows readers into her life and the experiences that molded her into the person that she is. With emotion and determination, she makes it through situations of abuse, homelessness, suicidal thoughts, and the uncertainty of life, all while holding onto her faith in God.
I have to first say, I admire Jones for her straightforward, raw divulgence of her life. It took courage to write all of this down and put it out there for others to read. That has to be the thing I like most. The genuine feeling behind her words. Also notable is the fact that she does not keep things in the negative. In each situation, she does try to find a positive note and share it with her readers. Her writing style is very matter-of-fact, as if she were standing right in front of you telling her story, which ensures empathy.
On the other side, however, I did have a problem keeping up with Jones at times. She would talk about something, digress, and then return to her previous topic, which made me feel incredibly lost at times. For example, one minute she would be talking about one person, relate them to another person, and then come back to the original person without a proper transition to inform readers that the topic was again changing. Also detracting from the reading were the errors. There were a number of grammatical errors filling the pages that made it a little difficult to follow along as well.
Taking into account the difficulty in following along with her story, I would have to rate this book two out of four stars. I feel this rating is justified based on the fact that while the author is genuine in her story telling and she has a decent rhythm to her writing, her habit of digressing and the lack of editing cannot allow for a higher rating. Were the book edited properly, I would possibly award it another half star were that possible because the book was not a bad read, just a hard one.
I would recommend this book to adults interested in hearing a story full of hope in the face of adversity. Perhaps some of the incidents in the book would not allow me to feel comfortable recommending it to anyone under the age of sixteen. However, as the details were not very vivid, that is truly subjective and should really be at the discretion of a child’s parent.
