Opaque is a really well-written book which leads me to give the book a 4/4 book rating. There are a few mistakes likes some weird spacing issues that may be a glitch with my format on page 188. However, these mistakes do not warrant the book getting a 3/4 because the rest of the book is really incredible with the impeccable descriptive writing

The book follows a sixteen year-old boy named Adam who is insecure and dislikes his peers. He has always felt different and disliked any contact with his peers until a new student, Carly, joined his school. He falls for her and together they are taken on a journey through love, jealously, hard decisions, and violence as Adam finds out why he has always been different.

This book is mostly clean however there is slight mention of an erotic scene between Adam's parents at the beginning of the book as well as mention of rape in the middle of the book. There is also some uncomfortable violence with a local girl that made me almost put down the book. There was also another violent minor torture scene that made my skin crawl a little bit but it may because I don't particularly like to hear of too much violent in descriptive writing. In addition to these violent scenes, I also disliked the unorthodox feelings that Adam had to his mother but with the explanation given later, I was relieved by the explanation given. It may have been unorthodox but the information given makes me feel better with the situation.

What I most liked about the book was the very descriptive writing the author created. Each scene was one that I could easily picture with the descriptive language provided. I also enjoyed the different point of view provided because it allowed me to further understand the story from each perspective while still having the suspense. I was always surprised by every information or event revealed.

This book, however, is most definitely made for young adults because of the previously mentioned scenes and for the extensive vocabulary that the author uses. There were multiple words that I had to look up so I could further understand the work of art. For example, I had to look up paroxysm which is a sudden attack or or violent expression of a particular emotion or activity. However, although I had to look up several words in the book, I still thoroughly enjoyed the book and would definitely recommend it to any young adults who enjoy reading science-fiction with romance. I, myself, will definetly be reading the second book.
