The book Opaque by Calix Leigh-Reign is the story of Adam Caspian. He is a troubled teenager, who can't seem to find his role in life. He can't decide if he wants to be good or bad. There is just so much darkness that drags him under. Life is a dark place and no one understands him. He doesn't even understand himself. The only light in his life is his mother, Jo. He is angry, because he has feelings and desires that he does not know how to handle.

Then, Carly Wit comes to school and his life is forever changed. She touches his heart in places that he never knew existed. She realizes who and what Adam really is, a genetic mutation with supernatural powers. She introduces him to a whole new world and shows him that maybe he is not the monster that he thought he was. She is a calming presence in his life and shows him the importance of being a good and honest being. She gives him the opportunity to come clean.

I liked the book. In the beginning, I was not sure, it started with some weird stuff. But in the end, the author ties it all together. She has a creative imagination. It shows in the vivid description of her new world and the variety of her characters with their different powers. She did a good job of showing the struggle a teenager has in transitioning to an adult and the hard choices that show up in everyday life.

What I liked least about the book is that it was written for young adults. I did not feel like the book was a good fit for a teenager. I thought the book was more for a mature audience. It was a little too graphic in some areas. Although you worry about your teenager stepping into that area in life, you don't want to put something in their hands that would lead them that way.

I rate the book a 4 out of 4 stars. I thought it was professionally edited and did not contain any errors. I though the story was great. I felt like the characters really brought it to life. The author did an amazing job of showing how one person can change the life of another person, for the better. I am looking forward to reading the next book in the series.
