Chasing A Flawed Sun by Daniel Mcghee
Chasing A Flawed Sun is the autobiography of the author, Daniel Mcghee. The author revisits his past by recounting the events that transpired during his addiction to heroin. At a young age, he had already become a delinquent and he had become addicted to alcohol and heroin. After a series of overdoses, incarcerations and treatment facilities, and becoming homeless and a heart attack he was able to turn his life around.
" Some must die, so that others may live." This is honest and raw. The idea that others died so that I may live gives me a tremendous amount of guilt." - Daniel Mcghee, Chasing A Flawed Sun
In his way, the author was able to walk us through the depths of the life of an addict, it opens our eyes to their lives and the reasons why some would choose addiction over being sober, how a person would invest to feel good about themselves no matter how temporary, and the false sense of confidence than the feeling of permanent emptiness. He gave us a clear view of how addiction could affect our state of mind: how the habit can cost a lot of money, the significant damage it entails to our health and our relationships, and the temporary happiness that it could give us. It's hard to think that a lot of people who lost their battle to addiction because they felt that had no one to turn to. Recounting every detail of what happened during the darkest time of his life must have taken a lot of courage that others never had.
Though drug addiction is very rampant in today's society, especially to some people would still consider discussing drug addiction as a taboo topic, that drug addiction should be kept from everybody else. People in today's society should be more open in discussing topics such as drug addiction, people should rather help others than ostracize them. This could be the only way to save more lives than losing more lives to illegal substances.
Chasing A Flawed Sun is a must-read book about addiction. The Author, Daniel Mcghee, tells the readers about his experiences, his struggles, how his addiction to heroin affected his state of mind. In this book, the author explains to us, in great detail, the feelings that the drug aroused or dampened when he was under the influence. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars . I would especially recommend this book to the early teens and young adults.
