God’s Plan for your Future by David Charles Cole presents a comprehensive overview of the Bible and the key lessons it has to teach us. If you consider the 66 books of the Bible to be the inspired Word of God, then you will find this book to be a type of User Manual for your life. In God’s Plan for your Future, David Charles Cole presents a sweeping overview of the entire Bible as if it were a mystery novel with clues sprinkled throughout the story.

I am disappointed that the title of the book does not accurately describe the contents. The book contains a very well written history of God’s interaction with humanity, Old Testament history, including a history of the Jewish people, implications of the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, Bible prophecies at the end of the Church Age, and what happens after death. I found that reading too much of the book in one sitting was overwhelming. The material was easier to read a little at a time.

I enjoyed learning about encrypted messages found in the original Hebrew texts, as discussed in the Introduction. I especially liked the section called “What About Fluffy? Will the souls of animal lovers be reunited with their pets after the final buzzer?” Spoiler alert! Of course, we will! I appreciated the summary of lessons learned at the end of every chapter. I found the Appendices very helpful reference material, especially Appendix VII Issues Facing Christianity Today - A Point of View.

I don’t agree with everything the author says. I don’t think we can blame Snoop Dogg and Led Zepplin for the moral decline of our nation. But there is no doubt that David Charles Cole has an impressive knowledge of the Bible, especially considering that he is a retired Colonel in the United States Air Force, not a clergyman.

If you are at a point in your life where you are re-examining church doctrine and/or your overall belief system, this is an excellent guide for that journey. This would also be a good tool to use for coaching a new Christian in the doctrines of the church and the scriptures. It would certainly stimulate some lively conversation!

I rated this book as 3 stars out of 4. Sometimes opinions were stated as facts; however, this book is full of truth and substance. I enjoyed reading it.
