BOOK RATING BY ME: 4 OUT OF 4
The book who told you that you were naked by William E.Combs is actually a good reexamination of not just the garden of Eden but a recap of the history of man's creation and relationship with his Maker, God.
According to Combs, Adam while in the garden was opportune of the following:
-he operated freely as a spirit in the class of God.
-he freely interacts with the creator (God) (Gen.3:8) he both saw God, heard and spoke with Him.
-He was given power like God by God to say a thing and see it happen. (Gen.2:19.
-He operated in the same knowledge, unusual authority where he has ability to summon animals like lion and the tiger etc. As a spirit, he ruled practically in the spiritual and physical realms and had unusual supernatural ability (Gen.2:10-14).
The consequence that follows after man ate the forbidden tree with his wife and failed to admit but was instead blaming the serpent were the following:
-Man became spiritually dead (Gen.2:17, Rom.6:23), spiritual death is the separation of the spirit of man from that of God, who is the father of all spirits. man could no longer see God, hear or feel Him, he was disconnected from God. Man became carnal or naturally minded. The physical and tangible world became more real than his spiritual world. He became a slave of his physical sense. What he could touch, taste, see, smell in the physical ruled him. It became easier for man to believe what the environment told him than what God says which made him to cover his nakedness before God proclaiming he was naked. Man as well became rebellious in nature (Rom.8:7). The flesh and mind dominated his life. The spirit which was the real man (the inner man) was relegated completely to insignificance to a point when Cain became angry over his unworthy sacrifice and was warned by God to control his anger, he went on and killed his brother Abel.
Since God was no longer in charge of man, he yielded himself to satan who overcame him through the serpent and man came under his bondage. He became subject of diseases, disaster and death. Besides that, the Lord placed a curse upon earth as a result of the fall of man. The outcome of this curse is sorrow, struggle, sweating and eventually death. The animals and organisms he once named all rose up against him. Man eventually lost all spiritual virtues, character and attributes, he now exists only in order to die.
THE MINISTRY OF THE LAST ADAM
According to Combs (pg.95) unlike Jesus we are all slaves of the sin inherited from the first Adam. How can we liberate from the law of sin and death? In Paul's phrase "the righteous requirement of the law". God as a righteous spirit must judge sin. He cannot simply forgive our offenses as an act of grace without violating His righteous nature. That is the reason why Jesus died on the cross to save us from the fall of the first Adam. As we partook in the consequences of the first Adam, we must also partake in the act of the last Adam. The last Adam came to lead us out of what the first Adam led us into. Jesus is a restoration ministry who came to lead us back in relationship with the father (John 14:6). He imparted upon us the right to stand in the presence of the Father without any sense of guilt or condemnation (Rom.8:1-2, 2Cor.5:8). He came to restore the lost glory and also release our divine nature (2Pet.1:3-4). Our destination is Glory not lost glory existing like the one who made us in his image. Jesus came to lift the curse and destroy the works of the devil in our life (Gal.3:13). He came as direct opponent to the devil, connecting humanity to God. On His rescue mission, Jesus has literally brought us back from the control of satan by His blood. (1Cor.6:19-20, John 3:6).
All man need do now is to accept Jesus Christ as His Personal Lord and savior in order to be saved. We have to deny ourselves and follow Jesus's footsteps for "the knowledge of good and evil is a ruthless taskmaster, and it is at the heart of your expression of self. Even if you clothe yourself with everything the world can offer in an attempt to be complete and fulfilled, you will always find circumstances that undercut your confidence, leaving you feeling vulnerable and naked".
