Are you interested in a book that would keep your kid happily occupied? Look no further. You have your dream book in Sigfried's Smelly Socks! Len Foley has done a great job of creating an engaging story for kids.
The book begins with Sigfried trying to investigate the reason for the terrible smell coming out of his book. He takes me through the incredibly disgusting things that dirtied his book. He found the page where his naughty dog peed. Then, another where his brother, Sherman, wiped his nose, and yet another where his sister wiped her dirty behind. The list goes on until he gets to the smell coming off his head, thanks to the pile of unwashed socks he kept hidden beneath his bed.
I was captivated by the illustrations in this book. They were simple and yet funny. The pictures are bright and attractive. I believe this is really important because kids are more interested in pictures than in the written text. The size of the book is also appropriate for kids. Len Foley was able to integrate key elements into this short book of 28 pages. He devoted some part of the book to rhymes. I especially love the part about potatoes and uncle Kato. He also matched colors at some point.
At the conclusion of this book, Sigfried decided to wash his socks. I love this part because kids would learn to keep clean by imitating Sigfried. Kids can also learn about different kinds of foods such as turnip, spaghetti, ketchup, waffle and so on. I was also able to learn new words such as kraut and sudsy.
I think kids below five years would find this book really interesting. The text had no spelling errors. I would rate this book 4 out of 4 stars. The author has a great sense of imagination and even adults might find it interesting to read.
