The King of May a perfect example of a narcissist. At the very beginning of the chapter he meets with a princess whose goal is to help her people and so she seeks out the king of May who helps her but in exchange she has to give up her only friend and when she asks what he will do with him well I prefer you read his response in chapter one by the way you will not have to go very far. You see when the turn occurred courtesy of Oak who was most powerful being chaos ensued and well the world was up for grabs. Oak then proceeded to create semi-gods who were given various powers over different elements honestly this is overreaching can you imagine such a world where some mortals are given the power to control the weather, sun, ability to shift, mold the land at their whims this is exactly what Oak did he picked a handful of mortals and turned them into gods. never you mind if he checked their mental health. So you see these gods are somewhat unstable see the King of May for example by the way he was put in charge of the sun so he represented light. However what he was completely opposite of who he was as he enjoyed making people squirm he was disgusting to look at literally and he enjoyed knowing that he made people want to turn away in disgust but he did not mind it rather reveled in it and oh how he loved to dance such an energetic fellow people were required to dance all the time in his little kingdom quite exhausting, to be honest, but not for the King.

So Oak was killed by Ashley and Scholar two inseparable friends brought together by the turn. Of course Oak had to die he was responsible for the turn and the thereafter events. Why am I mentioning these two what do they have to do with the King well the King will require their help at a much later date. As I mentioned the turn happened and the earth was up for grabs and the other epitome of power who ascended was a man named Cattle Prod this one is mortal no powers just a ruthless leader willing who wants to bring people to heel. Cattle Prod and the King of May are currently the only forces of power to reckon with which means both will want to get rid of the other. Ashley and Oak now referred to as god killers. However by that time Ashley and Oak have decided to visit the king of May and when they reach his little empire the unexpected happens. The king of May takes Ashley as his prisoner and tells Scholar to kill Cattleprod and then he can have his friend back. Scholar has no choice he tries to get to Cattleprod for all good that does him as Cattleprod is aware he has a target on his back. So scholar chooses another path one that he is rather familiar with he decides the King of May has to die and to that extent finds his own small army to carry out the attack

The attack happens and Scholar saves his friend. Cattleprod who is invested in this war as well also manages to kill the king of May and brings the sun back and I mean this literally because the king had hidden it and used it for his own gain. There are other aspects of the book that I like and will mention briefly. Ashley and Scholar were commissioned by this god Alden who wanted them to kill his wife yes she too was a god and Oak ensured that the only way they could be killed was through sex if one partner cheated it made them vulnerable. So Ashley seduced and Scholar passed the sentence cool these two. It is an interesting book it was interesting to see how the mind of a narcissist worked. I loved how the author developed the story of Ashley and Scholar I swear sometimes it felt like there was sexual tension between the two but Scholar is not into men Ella ensured that. I absolutely enjoy reading Matthew Tysz books. He definitely is not cliché. I rate this book 3 out of 4 stars. the story was compelling and there definitely seems like there is a sequel cannot wait!
