Twisted Threads by Kaylin McFarren introduces Akira Sato, a Yakuza assassin working for the Japanese Zakura-kai family. She is someone battling with her consciences showing guilty feelings for her killings. It follows the life of Akira a young beautiful Geisha. The story involves criminal activity, a sea cruise and love. Akira is sent on assignment to kill the person who had killed Keiko Mitsui. The assignment is to be carried out on a cruise ship the Starfish which is on a sea cruise along the Caribbean to Miami, this leads her to discover more mystery and murders as things are not what they seem, making it difficult to trust anyone on the ship. Akira also discovers secrets about her personal life that have been concealed by Zakura-kai leader Mitsui-san and Mitsui-san’s plans for her future.
Akira Sato meets Devon a young handsome man who is on a sea cruise with his Uncle Paul and second wife Sara. It is an interesting love story and a very romantic story and shows how love can influence choices that people make and even change people’s characters. A reader can follow the beginning and growth of her relationship with Devon. Akira and Devon’s relationship is tested throughout the story. The story shows different types of love throughout the story.

I liked how the author describes the people in the story and the setting throughout the book, it is very easy to visualise the story in one’s mind, the sea cruise along the Caribbean to Florida, the different cultures the characters meet along the sea cruise and the ship itself has many different nationalities from Asia, Europe and American. I like the writing style of the author, which shows professionalism. I disliked the vivid descriptions of murder scenes however the author minimises these scenes throughout the book.

It is a good read for readers who love to read travel stories, love stories, mystery and different cultures. The writer uses a language with which can be read by almost everyone from young adults, it is a story that is a appealing to readers of almost any age.
The book is readable easy and to follow, it is also professionally written and the story unfolds in a dramatic way. I will rate the book 3 out of 4 instead of a 4 out 4 because of its early chapters which are not so thrilling to read and spelling errors.
