I consider The Unbound Soul book by Richard L. Haight a good book, rated 3 out of 4 . This book describes the authors journey to unfoldment, his search to find what he describe as Isness, a particular state of unconditional love. The author not only explain his spiritual experiences in great detail, but also, he is honest about the struggles in his life that make those experiences more challenging to understand and how this became his life process. The book is easy to read and well written.
I especially like from this book the author understanding and respect for different religions. I love the way in which the author’s father explain him, when he was just a boy, that because other people doesn’t belong to your religion that doesn’t mean that people is going to hell. In a world in which religion divide people and put them against others just by not sharing their beliefs, a book in which different spiritual experiences are explained and connected with different religions teaching is an instructional and refreshing experience. I also like how the author connects teaching from other religions such as Buddhism and Christians to unconditional love.
His explanation of taking care of your body, mind and soul as part of the process of unfoldment not only are a necessary process in the books flow but in the teaching that this book brings to your life. Detailed explanations of meditation exercises that help you in the process of unfoldment are included giving this book an incredible value as a spiritual guide. His explanations to the section about resolving disharmony in which the author answer possible questions from the readers to the situations he is describing is a clarifying and help you feel more comfortable with the idea of the Dance of the Self.
Although I’m not particularly fond of the martial arts and the east teaching I think Haight make a good job to present those teaching as impartial as possible. I found his citations of the Tao appropriate and applicable even outside the martial arts context and a good addition in Haight’s effort to incorporate several beliefs in his teachings. Although some of the descriptions Haight make about his learning of martial art were boring from my point of view, the easy style in which the book is written make then readable and enjoyable in some ways.
Finally, the book descriptions, exercises, links and glossary make it a very valuable guide to your search of a better self. The Unbound Soul book by Richard L. Haight is a good guide in your spiritual journey, easy to connect with any religious belief you may have without been a religious book. This is a book appropriate for an audience in search of spiritual guidance.
