That was the "Smokey and the Bandit" car (well, actually that was a '77) and was "the car" to have in the late 70's. My best friend's older brother had one; he waxed it with a rag that had metal shavings in it. Guess I don't need to tell you what happened.

I was always partial to the General Lee in Dukes of Hazzard - a '69 Dodge Charger.

I always thought the 49 Merc those hoods had in American Graffiti was cool. I had one similar back in 1959.

I've been seeing a lot of Lotus cars lately. Didn't see those much in the states, but they're around here a lot.
How do you say the plural of Lotus? Lotuses? Loti? No, that can't be right.

Anybody for the Gremlin? How about the ever-popular Yugo? No? I guess we will just have to settle for the Ferrari Testarossa then! ;) 8)

They sold Yugos two for the price of one so you would have one for parts.

I thought they threw in a free bicycle as well just in case you wanted to get where you were going quicker and safer.

The Gremlin reminds me of the Vega, Pinto and Pacer.

Anybody remember the Javelin? That was a tough looking car.

Pinto? Those were dangerous, depending on the year. Ford knew that putting the
gas tank on the outside rather than the inside of the rear axle was a potential fire
hazard, but did it anyway. If the vehicle was rear ended, the axle would act as a shield so that the tank would avoid being damaged.Placed on the rear side of the axle, increased the likelihood of damage, specifically ignition of the fumes in the tank by
one steel member colliding with another. The cost to move the tank was $7 a vehicle."

My first Pinto was recalled and they put a plastic shield in front of the tank. It may have helped. Dont know about my second one. it was several years old when I bought it, I never thought to check it out. As far as performing, they were dependable. The only complaint I had was they wouldnt pull the hat off your head. No guts.

My brother bought a Fiero shortly after he was married and I thought that was pretty cool. But he had to give it up soon after. Couldn't fit the kids they started having in the back window I guess! ;)

Yeah, I remember the Fiero. Little sports car that was popular for a minute or two back in the 80s.

Pinto still makes me think of beans. Maybe they called it that because the car was about as effective at traveling as a can of beans.
