YOU, THIS IS ME… OVER.
The book consistently carries themes of grief, with some poems balancing admiration for loved ones with a subtle undercurrent of worry about the inevitable "goodbye." Furthermore, the author created an illusion in which he was engaged in a constant conversation with the readers. I found myself deeply moved by the mention of the author's father's passing, as I am particularly sensitive to such themes. Their narrative about the estrangement during childhood and the eventual rekindling of their bond after the author's recruitment, to the point where they could call their father their best friend, was profoundly stirring. I appreciate the glimpse into the author's personal life. In the poem titled “A debt of blood upon our shoulders,” there's a particularly striking line that captivated me: 'Does my hand hold this rifle or does this rifle hold my hand?' This question suggests a sense of lost control and raises thought-provoking questions about the concept of freedom. I found this line particularly compelling.
"Waltzing with the Devil" also stood out due to its inconsistent format. The author had amazingly mirrored the chaotic dance it represents. The frequent changes in font effectively convey emotions and actions, enhancing the reading experience for me even more. Overall, I enjoyed the book.
