Everyone loves children. Well, almost everyone. They are cute, and their fragility is both a blessing and a curse. It is the former because people tend to take pity on them whenever they find a baby in need. And it is the latter because if they are not given proper care, they could die. Even worse is the condition of babies born prematurely. Anna-Karen Sorensen (a physician and poet) writes about the things that babies born prematurely are subjected to in the hospital. And no, these experiences are not horrible ones. Using poems and pictures in the book she titled A Fate Unwound Too Soon, she describes what a brain scan of a premature baby looks like, their cry, suffering, and the care given.

I noticed two major themes in this book. And these are birth and death. One could say that the title of this book could mean both. On the one hand, it means the premature birth of a baby. On the other hand, it means the premature death of a baby. No matter the way you choose to look at it, the poems that were written in the book talk about both in such a way that I found so beautiful. These poems helped me see death and birth in a very different light. And this epiphany granted to me by the words written in the poems is what I liked most in A Fate Unwound Too Soon.

After reading this book, which is barely 40 pages long, I sat for a moment and tried to think about what I might have disliked about it, but I failed to come up with one. It turns out that my soul, spirit, mind, and body enjoyed reading this book and hated not one thing about it. I enjoyed reading A Fate Unwound Too Soon so much that I found myself recommending it to every poem lover that I came across in the last few days.

I discovered firsthand that A Fate Unwound Too Soon was exceptionally edited. In layman's terms, it was error-free. So, by virtue of the fact that I loved everything and every word in A Fate Unwound Too Soon, I rate it four out of four stars. What this means is that I found the book so enjoyable in every way.

A Fate Unwound Too Soon is a must-read for poetry fans looking for topics that aren't covered nearly enough. Lastly, a collection of poems about premature babies is one that I had never seen before coming across this book.
