Review of A Fate Unwound Too Soon
Childbirth can be one of the most beautiful experiences in life. But it can quickly turn into a nightmare when the long-awaited child dies or comes out premature and risks dying. To parents whose children come out before their time, these children are precious. But they constantly live in the fear that their kids may leave them soon. To parents who, unfortunately, lost their children due to premature births or some other factor, these are kids that they will never see grow, and they have no way of knowing if said children are happy wherever they are. A Fate Unwound Too Soon by Anna-Karen Sorensen is a collection of poems that aims at helping parents of premature babies go through the motions of caring for their kids in the hospital without worrying too much about what could go wrong. It also reassures parents who have loved and lost that though their kids may not be with them, they are indeed in a beautiful place.
One beautiful thing that I loved most about this collection of poems is that each poem is short and straight to the point. Some have just five lines. Others have more. But no matter how short a poem is, the message it passes across is very powerful. These messages have the ability to heal the broken hearts of grieving parents and make the loss easy to bear. Some chronicle the passing of the child in such a beautiful way that it helps parents think back on the dark day their child left them with smiles on their grieving faces.
I cannot fault A Fate Unwound Too Soon for anything. It ticks all the boxes for me. It is short and delivers powerful messages to its readers. It was exceptionally well edited (I did not see any errors). Some of the poems were written in beautiful styles that can be described as very appealing to the eyes. The poet added some pictures of kids being cared for in the hospital, and it made the poems come alive. In other words, I did not dislike anything in it. Putting it another way, I liked all of A Fate Unwound Too Soon.
I have outlined many of the positive points that I took note of above. I have also made it clear that I did not see any point/thing/feature to dislike in it. So, in light of this very clear fact, I award it a rating of 4 out of 4. I am eagerly looking forward to reading more poems by Anna-Karen Sorensen. She has proven herself to be a poet that will rival many out there.
A Fate Unwound Too Soon will generally appeal to poem lovers. But I would like to specifically recommend it to readers interested in poems about little children. I also think that parents should read this book, especially those who have recently lost a baby or those who have just delivered one prematurely.
