The Dream Keepers is a fictional novel written by Linda Keen. This book is about a girl’s journey from being a child to maturity. Facing every problem and trial she faces each and every day and moving forward to the ups and downs of everyday struggle of life. This book will make the reader appreciative of the simple things we have and value relationships either with our parents, friends, or siblings.
Starlight Langston was still an infant when her parents got involved in an accident which took their lives. Starlight or Star along with her brother was taken in by their grandparents in their mother’s side. Growing up Star and his brother were taken care of by their grandparents but due to their age, Uma, their grandmother got sick which forced them to be sent to their father’s parents for custody. Star and his brother’s life dramatically changed since they have to live with their other grandparents which they rarely know.
Reading this book reminded me of the things that we usually take for granted. For those who grew up with their parents like me, we tend to forget how lucky we are to be able to talk to them and learn from them. When we go on a wrong way they are there to guide us and give us some life advice that would guide us to make the right decision on situations that we might face. Star gets her courage from her dreams and her friends but for us who still have our parents we can always seek their advice whenever we need it. This lesson is the one that always comes into my head whenever I read this book.
This book is quite interesting to read, but if I am going to point out something that I do not like it would be that the first part is quite dull to read. The first part tells the story of their life in the south which almost nothing happened. It only got interesting towards the end. However the second part is great which made me indulge in it. In my opinion, it would be great if the second part was placed in the first part.
Overall, the book was good. Reading it made me remember that the simple things in life are the ones that makes us happy and the ones that gives us joy. I would recommend it to anyone regardless of age. This would definitely make us evaluate ourselves and think whether we are spending time on the things that really matters. Despite the lack of interesting story in the first part, I will still rate it 3 out of 4 star because I really enjoyed the second up to the last part.
