The Sun and the Moon of Alexandria by Ray Filby is a captivating story about Apollos, a young man from a wealthy family in Alexandria. The novel seamlessly blends themes of adventure, love, friendship, spirituality, and truth. Motivated by a desire to admire the pyramids and explore religious insights, Apollos embarks on a journey from Alexandria to Giza, accompanied by Jerahmeel, an experienced guide and friend. Together, they encounter various religious groups, including Jews and Christians, immersing themselves in the spiritual and cultural life of antiquity. Apollos seeks to understand the true religion and discover the one true God.

Along the way, they meet Christians who display remarkable love, kindness, and generosity toward one another and their community. Apollos learns about Jesus Christ, whom Christians believe died, rose from the grave, and ascended to heaven to be with God the Father. A significant subplot of the book involves Caleb, whose message resonates deeply with Apollos and Jerahmeel. Caleb's teachings encourage them to reflect on their own lives and actions, leading to profound self-awareness and the recognition of their shortcomings. Apollos, in particular, feels remorseful for his past actions, prompting a deep desire for repentance.

One aspect I particularly appreciate about this book is Ray Filby’s exploration of diverse cultures and religious beliefs. The detailed narration provides clear descriptions, adding depth to the story. However, while I thoroughly enjoyed the book, I was disappointed by the inclusion of some unverified sources that seemed misleading and inconsistent. The tome of the characters used did not exhibit what was exactly written in the bible. Despite this, I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars for its insightful content. It offers valuable knowledge about the life of Jesus Christ and Christianity as a whole.

I highly recommend The Sun and the Moon of Alexandria to anyone interested in learning more about Christianity and its foundational principles.
