The Sun and the Moon of Alexandria, by Ray Filby, is a Christian novel that draws much interest and captivation from the character of Apollos, one of the very first teachers of the Christian faith. It tells of his journey through Alexandria, Jerusalem, and other places in his mission of the faith, with his companions Diana and mentor Jerahmeel.

The story teems with historical and biblical references, which makes it appealing to history enthusiasts and religious scholars. The central plot twist is the meeting of Apollos with Roman authorities that challenges his faith and willpower. The book was exceptionally well edited and error-free.

This book is something out of the ordinary, capturing the imagination with its vivid portrayal of early Christian communities, particularly in Antioch. The author exposes the communal living together in worship and deals with the challenges that early Christians had; this insight helps us see their socio-religious context and the camaraderie going on with believers. Realistically presented are therefore their conflicts and their persecutions and accordingly brought forth the inspiring sense of endurance and faith.

I dislike nothing in this book; everything seemed to turn out well, even down to side characters like Diana. She's a supportive, although fully developed character with her own struggles and desires. This is a terrific piece of historical Christian fiction.

Therefore, this book deserves a rating of 5 out of 5 stars in portraying early Christian communities like Antioch while giving great reasons for communal living, worship, and obstacles faced. It is a light into the past socioreligious environment and the camaraderie among the early believers. Great work on the historical Christian fiction, really. I would recommend it to anybody interested in early church life. If you're interested in Christian history and community life, this book is worth reading.
