It's the year 1960, and Annie returns home to Millside for an event and then rediscovers her diary that she kept 20 years ago during the year that changed her life and begins to relive those experiences as the memories come rushing back. On her return, she reminisces about her experience during World War II through the diary that she wrote during that period. Her diary, which was a gift for her 16th birthday given to her by her dad, contains these very special memories of a pivotal year of her life that changed the course of her life. Delve into this truly heart-touching story as 16-year-old Annie narrates her experiences, feelings, thoughts, love, and loss during that period.

One Year, One Night by S.L. Roman is a fictional story based on a true event that happened during World War II, exploring the themes of love, loss, war, friendship, war, and small town drama through the eyes and diary of a 16-year-old girl. The authors, writing under the pseudonym S.L. Roman, give the readers a good and interesting narrative involving Annie, the central character, her family: her father, who departs to join the army; Robert, her brother; her mom; Aunty Betty; Ben, an evacuee child who joins their household as a result of the war; and Remy, the handsome soldier who Annie falls in love with during this period.

Annie's diary entries are the standout feature of this book and what makes the book so special. Also, the humor by the author makes the book so much fun. I enjoyed reading about Mr. Cribbles and his antics.

The book excels in many areas, and there was nothing I disliked about the book. I learned a lot from the book, including understanding the rationing of food and the reason behind it, the use of the air raid sirens, the relationships that blossomed as a result of the war, and how one's life can be changed and transformed in a space of months.

The book was well edited, and I rate the book 5 out of 5 stars. I had an enjoyable time reading this book, the love story of Annie and Remy. I recommend this book to lovers of fiction, small town stories, love stories, young adults, and teenagers. It was really touching, and overall, I find no fault in the book.
