Review of Love Letters to the Virgin Mary
This book "Love Letters to the Virgin Mary" by David Richards isn't just a mere love letter or just another romantic love story, it's the actual life story of the author himself! He vividly describes his entire life story to the woman he has fallen in love with. More than a love story, it's a story above love, life, God & many other aspects of life the author has himself experienced.
The author David Richards was born and brought up in a family which worked in the military field. He describes about his childhood, his school life, the friends he met and made during that time, the way he and his family used to shift due to the military work and connections of his father, his further education, his relationship with God since his childhood to the adulthood and the changes he faced in it, his love stories from the childhood till his multiple marriages and divorces, the hardships he faced in life and also his point of view towards love, life & God.
The author is being truly very honest, I actually felt it since he described each and every smallest memories of the childhood to the biggest incidents of his life. He's narrating it to the woman he has fallen in love with in the form of letters, which actually makes up to the title of the book. Apart from that he explains in his faith & belief towards the Lord Jesus Christ, also various incidents where he felt he's being actually tested by God, sometimes making him to think why is God bringing up such kind of things in life, he also mentions about various other religions around the world like Islam, Hinduism which I too personally liked very much!
He goes through a lot of tragic situations in life, such as failed marriages and divorces, his physical and mental suffering without having any work or job for a long time, his long quest to find the true love of his life, in the due course of time how his relationship with God had affected, where his faith and patience was being tested to know his devotion, but ultimately he gets through all of it and brings up his devotion and love towards God.
As described earlier, his failed marriages and divorces makes him question himself that does actually true love exist in this world and if it does then why he is not able to find it since years of searching for it and facing hardships in his personal life relationships. But the point that is actually appreciable is that in the book as mentioned at any point, the author feels low under several circumstances in life but he never gives up! He manages to muster up the courage and will to move forward and explore in life and achieve something new or great!
One more beautiful thing about this book is that the author shifts the timeline from the Great Roman Empire and the Colosseum gladiator fights to the present day COVID attack scenarios and social media handles like Instagram, while reading my mind used to shift just like portrayed in the movies, from the ancient eras and civilizations to the ultra modern times. The shift of time, civilization, culture, human living, the struggle for existence and survival comes out in a very heart touching way! From the ancient gladiator fights between humans and animals to the present day where people search on Instagram, time has changed to such a great extent, but still the struggle for existence and survival and living in this world continues to the day! Ultimately the author proves that both love and God exist in the lives of everybody, yet we need the courage and patience to go through the obstacles and journey to reach the final destination. The way he explains how life tested him since the beginning to the much years of his life is commendable, he really has a lot of courage and patience to explain his own struggles, downfalls and hardships, it's truly his own life story.
Honestly speaking about myself, this is the first book I chose to read for reviewing and I am happy that I chose this book because personally I am a great admirer of historical grandeur and the modern day technologies, I loved the way the author has brought it out in the book! He mentions the use of marijuana during his life, also his journey when the world faced the deadly COVID attack in the past few years. Also his undying passion, dedication and devotion towards finding the true love of his life and the path of God made it a great read for me! I really felt as if the author is sitting infront of me narrating his life and I'm listening to it.
I decided to give 5 stars to this book since it was professionally edited and also well very well brought up for the readers, but some people might find it boring in some points, so I recommend this book to people who admire history, timeline of events and the concept of finding the true love of life & the ultimate path of God!
