The book Wild World by Peter S. Rush was a quick and interesting read. Set in the 1960’s during the Vietnam War, the book followed the main character Steve as he questioned what he was doing in college after the shooting by the National Guard at Kent State and the war in Vietnam that he did not agree with. Unwilling to just sit back and complain as many of his friends, classmates and girlfriend were doing, he decided to forgo going to law school to become a cop in the college town where he was living. This made the story very interesting as he now had to battle the police force as well as his friends and girlfriend, who did not necessarily support his career choice.
I rated this book 3 out of 5 because while it jumped around a little bit, it did keep my attention and I wanted to read it to find out how the story would end. The transitions were a little choppy and there were not enough page breaks to signal that the story was switching to a different scene or context. There were also a few parts where the backstory and characters were not fully developed and I had to go back a few pages to figure out who or what the author was talking about. There were many characters introduced that had bit parts, so it was also a little hard to keep track of every personality and their characteristics. I did like how the main character had a strong moral compass that he did not deviate from it throughout the story. Even when his girlfriend would have a difference of opinion, or another cop on the force was doing the wrong thing, the main character stayed true to who he was, and in the end never faltered from his ideals. I would recommend this book to anyone who likes to read about crime and morality.

I agree that the choppy transitions in this story made it hard to follow at times. I think that reading a print copy of the novel, rather than the e-book version I read may have helped somewhat with the transitions, but it was definitely difficult to follow at times.
