Jesse is a notorious kid, who is always there where there is trouble. Most of the time, being the trouble. He is a passionate football player, loved by his family, a star of the school and a very hard-working young lad. His father is stern with him because he sees something outrageous in Jesse that can end up putting him in grave danger. One fine day, Jesse does get into ultimate trouble that forces his parent to send him to a Floating School. This school is for young children who are either forced by their parents to enrol or are here as a result of their passion for oceans and sails. Jesse believes his father sent him away as he never loved him. Jesse’s new school can be a bone-breaking ride for those who don’t know how to survive and a heavenly haven for those who crack the code behind staying out of trouble. But, Jesse is a boy who always looks for adventures, action and fun in ways that can offend many. Will he survive here? Will he understand what he wants from his life? Will Jesse’s father ever love him again? Well, the answers are hidden like treasures in Starboard Eight.

Starboard Eight is one of the most heart-touching books I have come across. The author, Brian Casey’s writing style, diction and pace is absolutely on point. The characters of this book are finely carved, not only fulfilling the storyline but also touching the lives of the readers. The character development of each one of Jesse’s friends is the most unexpected yet needed feature of this book. The book has also addressed the impact of strained relationships between parents and children. The most intriguing component of this book is the imagery that was created with words. The author’s way of describing each event, with visuals and emotional touch is very mesmerizing. Human relationships and emotional burdens are well described in this book. The book is flawless, with no typos that could hinder the flow of reading. Starboard Eight is diving right into my ‘All-time Favourite Books’ list.

There is nothing bad about this book that can be pointed out, so for me, it is a perfect definition of a fun-filled adventure book.

I rate this book 5 out of 5 stars. It has a very strong storyline. The characters are a reflection of us, which also enables one to connect more with the story. The author did a very good job of making the characters bold in emotions. It felt good to read a book that subtly talks about expressing emotions and resolving interpersonal conflicts. The book is a package of fun, drama, and adventures that will give one an adrenaline rush and a story that one will forever cherish. Thus, this perfect book deserves a perfect score.

As the story surrounds around young kids who are discovering their strengths while battling through trials and errors, teenagers will surely connect well with it. This book also speaks about the problems parents face while raising children, so this book would also be well embraced by adults who have parented. The book has an adventurous theme. The book can make you laugh till your cheeks hurt and also make you tear up till your vision blurs. So, if you are up for an emotionally loaded thriller, this book is for you.
