review of "Starboard Eight" by Brian Casey.

The engrossing book Starboard Eight takes readers on a tour down the East Coast of America and across the Caribbean islands. The narrative centers on the exploits of six lads who reside on two ships that serve as a mobile school for troublesome kids. Either these guys' parents have given up on them or they were expelled from public schools. Despite their rough pasts, the lads form a close friendship and go on a variety of experiences together, including treasure hunting and completing their high school education.

Character creation by the author, which is one of this book's strongest qualities, is exceptional. The distinctive traits and imperfections that distinguish each of the six boys make them more relatable. The characters grow and journey realistically as the story goes along, each character evolving at their rate. One of the book's finest features is the development of the characters, and readers will find themselves supporting each of the guys as they deal with their problems.

Despite the book's many positive aspects, there are a few obvious mistakes because it is the author's first work. However, the overall enjoyment of the story is unaffected by these mistakes. The fact that the story's setting, from 1973 to 1976, is not completely explored is a minor criticism as well. Although there are some allusions to the time, readers could have preferred a more complete understanding of it.

Overall, Starboard Eight is a very interesting book that will be enjoyed by many people. Although the novel is about a teen's journey, the themes are sophisticated and complex, making it appropriate for both teenagers and adults. The book is mostly intended for men, and parents who struggle with their relationship with their kids might find encouragement in the book's examples of redemption.

Finally, Brian Casey's debut book, Starboard Eight, is a fantastic read. Anyone who appreciates a well-written coming-of-age story should read this book because of the compelling storyline, good character development, and relatable themes. The book earns a good 4 out of 5 stars despite a few small flaws, which is a credit to Casey's writing skills, I would give this book a full 5-star rating.
