In reading Deadly Waters: The Vietnam Naval War and Its Aftermath by Randy Miller, it is about the narrative of Zachariah Martin, a farm boy in the north, and his journey with his peers in becoming a naval soldier in the army to be deployed in Vietnam. A narrative that embodies the hardships from a sensory and first-person standpoint on how difficult it is to become a navy officer. This also accompanied how these events affected Zack’s mental being and his relationships in his life, leading to all his despair and sorrow even after the war ended.

The positive aspects of the book that I liked were that it felt heartfelt, real almost; the characters and the chronological timeline felt historical; in such a way, all the dialogue felt appropriate for the characters. All in all, the story is a good read; the imagery of the whole scene is detailed enough for you to imagine it yourself but not so wordy that it becomes flat.

Next on my list of things that felt confusing and challenging to keep up with was the fact that the jump from one character's dialogue to another tends to be confusing, as does the transition in the narration of the story. And it tends to be indistinguishable, which can be difficult for some readers. Another is the flow of the story; it starts slowly, far too slowly in comparison to its climax and exposition, but other than that, the book is amazing all in all.

I would rate this book a 5 out of 5, because the book is amazing and caters to many readers alike. The whole narrative will take you to a place of battlefield and home all in one book, which I commend dearly; that's why it deserves a 5 out of 5 rating.

I would recommend this book to amateur readers because they can distinguish the dialogue from the narratives of each character, which can help one’s imagination while reading the book
