The Forbidden Man is the second fairy tale in "The Legends of Lainjin," written by Gerald R. Knight. This is the story of a man who puts himself on a mission to find his lost mother, Tarmalu, which leads him to find new islands and make many discoveries. The path to finding his mother is a lonely and dangerous one where he finds his enemies, and meets with a lot of different people. He learns to seek the truth about himself, and most of all learns to communicate and make friends. Leaving his own land, Ralik, and meeting with his first friend, Ewalt, was the start of his journey. The curiosity of the world, the dangers of the seas, and the blood-curdling adventures were what led him forward to find out more about his empty soul. The story taught many valuable lessons such as how to be strong for what your soul desires and how every struggle it causes is worth what you are seeking. The journey where he goes to different seas and faces monsters and fights is interesting. Will he be able to find his mother in the sands or the seas? Will this end well for him?
This book has really great lessons on moving forward with what your passion has to offer. The story of the journey of Laijin is a story that has a really great power of imagination. Although it can be understood that the author wants to convey a positive message with this book, I did not find the writing or storytelling to be particularly engaging. Although there were many characters throughout the story, not many were related and connected with Lainjins journey. The way Lainjins´ character is lonely and does not relate to many aspects of the story makes it less adventurous and less fascinating.
The book was really hard to understand, and the way the characters were optimized to work was less interesting. The way the adventures were done and Lainjin followed his passion was great, but the way he was led was really confusing. I did not like most of the parts because it was hard to keep up with the story, and I had to read through the same part several times to understand what was going on.
Since I barely enjoyed the book, I rate this book 3 out of 5 because I did not understand the story very well. The characters seemed to be mixed up, and Lainjin didn’t seem sure of what he was doing. The way the story was written was not really great.

I would recommend this book to young readers who do not have much experience reading fantasy novels; however, it may not be a good choice for sophisticated readers.
