Good fatherhood is a challenging role. It is a significant role that requires a lot of obligations and sacrifice. Killing Abel: Fratricide by Michael Tieman is a fictional Christian novel. The writer gives insight into the events in the book of Genesis of the Holy Bible.

Out of anger and jealousy, Cain murdered his brother, Abel, in cold blood. Although they were from the same parents, Abel and Cain were direct opposites of each other. Cain bore out of knowledge, and Abel out of faith. The circumstances surrounding these siblings' birth influenced their lifestyle and significantly impacted their day-to-day lives. Having killed Abel out of the sheer wickedness of his heart, God cursed Cain in the form of a mark, which was to protect him from being killed. Eva, Abel's wife, was bent on getting justice for her husband by killing Cain. How will she go about this, considering the mark now protecting Cain? Will she be able to succeed in her quest for justice and vengeance? Read up to find out about this thrilling novel.

I like how the writer portrayed the Father's (God's) love in the book. The writer's detailed account of all that transpired in the beautiful garden and after that shows the obligations and responsibilities attached to being a good father. The Father's decision to send them out of the beautiful garden after their rebellion was not out of hatred or wickedness. It was out of love that they might learn and understand that there's always a price for rebellion.

My favorite character in the book is Methuselah. Although he knew he wouldn't be among the people secured in the ark, he committed to helping his grandson construct the ark. His genuine act of sacrifice and service to God is highly commendable. My favorite scene was when Adam and Eve argued after being sent out of the beautiful garden.

I learned many lessons, especially the part where Lamech enticed the women of Nod, and they focused mainly on the prize Lamech offered, forgetting the price they would pay in the process, a very drastic mistake. The only thing I don't particularly appreciate in the book is what Eva went through after the demise of Abel. I believe she deserves better.

In addition, the book is professionally edited and well-structured. The writer's writing style is simple, making the book easy to read and understand. The book is also fun to read, with so many funny scenes. One was when the boat builders ran away out of fear of seeing the giants that accompanied Methuselah, creatures they'd never come across. According to the writer, "Upon seeing the giants, the men ran like scalded dogs." There was no dull moment in the course of reading this intriguing novel. Therefore, I rate Killing Abel: Fratricide by Michael Tieman 5 out of 5 stars.

I recommend this book to lovers of historical fiction and Christian-based novels.
