Review of Wild World
Wild World by Peter S. Rush is an insightful novel about a strong-willed young man named Steve Logan. He puts his ambition to attend Law School on hold and joins the Police force to instigate a change from within after the murder of four students by National guardsmen at Kent State. This decision is inspired by a New York City cop who is driven to end corruption in the force. After joining the police force and seeing the harsh reality of the immoral system, he has to decide, either he risks his life to fix things up or he leaves things as they are and goes with the flow. Hence, Steve needs a concrete plan if he is determined to bring change.
Set in a college town of the early 1970s, this crime, love-cum-mystery novel gives light on issues that affect the world today. Issues vary from police brutality, abuse of power, and lawlessness in the government and police department among other issues. Furthermore, this novel portrays tenacity in activism as seen in the protagonist, selflessness, love, and gender equality.
Subsequently, Steve is a strong character that must learn to navigate through matters that arise from his decision to join the Police force while not being devoured by the unprincipled ways of the system. He must fight to maintain his principles, even when his college friends and his girlfriend begin to see him as representing the enemy. Wild World depicts that life as a cop isn't easy, especially when one is trying to make a difference.
In addition, I would like to commend the professional editing work done on this book. I had no difficulty in reading and understanding the book except for the excessive use of hyphens between words, which, I think, is a result of the version I downloaded. Peter S. Rush's writing is clear, creating vivid mental pictures of the 1970s which I admire, from the storyline to the plot, dialogue, and portrayal of every character. I marvel at how every character plays a unique role in the development of the novel. Another thing I love about this book is how meticulously Peter merges diverse scenarios and situations in the formation of the plot. Moreover, the way the author effortlessly conveys the emotion of the novel is commendable.
The only thing I dislike about this book is the extreme use of burdensome profanity and the explicit description of sex scenes, and so I rate it 4 out of 5.
Consequently, I highly recommend Wild World by Peter S. Rush to ardent lovers of historical fiction because it is interesting and entertaining. People who love positive change will find this book captivating.
