Wild World is a historical fiction by Peter S. Rush. It blends historical events with fiction. It focuses on the life of Steve Logan. Steve is a student at Brown University. He finds everyone on campus in a state of panic, and he discovers the reason is that students were shot at Kent State University for protesting. Steve is distraught and goes home to find Roxy, his girlfriend, in tears. He consoles her as his roommates, Cal and Andy, complain about the situation.

They all agree to go to the protest being held at their school. Roxy gets emotional and delivers a speech, which gets her applause and cheers. As a result of the protests, the school goes on strike. Steve decides to suspend his dream of studying law, opting to be a policeman instead. This has a wide range of implications for his personal life. How does Steve cope? What does this mean for his relationship with Roxy?

I have always disliked wars because the people instigating them do not participate. They sit behind a desk and give orders for others to risk their lives. Most times, they do not consider the families of those actually doing the fighting. I like that Steve and his generation fought for themselves by protesting and making their feelings about the war known. I found the book educational in the sense that after reading it, I checked up on what really happened during the Vietnam War. I learned a lot, and I was able to separate facts from fiction. I liked how loyal Cal and Andy were to Steve; they stood by his decision to join the force and supported him.

I enjoyed reading how Steve faced the challenges of being a policeman. He quickly found out that most of his colleagues were morally rotten. His journey throughout was fascinating. It helped me get an insight into the perspective of those in the police force, who work tirelessly to ensure our safety. I disliked how the author portrayed Steve and Roxy's relationship. He always did his best to please her, while she took him for granted. She influenced most of his decisions, and that wasn't healthy.

I also disliked how Roxy's mother treated Steve. She was unwelcoming and didn't give him a chance to impress her. I found no errors in the book, indicating it was exceptionally well edited. For the reasons above, I give this book a rating of 4 out of 5 stars. I recommend it to those who love history, drama, action, and suspense.
