Review of Voice Of a Mummy
Voice of a Mummy is an enthralling work of historical fiction written by Kay A. Oliver. The story begins at the royal palace near the Nile River, where Menwi is sitting with many other ladies and devouring their meals. She watches as Selene indulges in her meal with no care as to what others may think of her. With an unexpected twist, Selene suddenly disappears, but she is not the only one; others have suddenly just vanished in plain sight, including Seti. Years later, Dr. Kaili Worthy finds herself bursting with excitement as she meets with her husband Derek for supper one evening, as she thinks she may have discovered a treasure of a lifetime. She has been on the hunt for Cleopatra for a long time, and finally, things indicate that she may have found her. She finds herself slightly disappointed after the DNA results come back from the lab, revealing that she has found the remains of Selene, Cleopatra’s daughter. But the real twists and turns start when she finds the bones rearranged on the table the next day, where they now lie with sand on them. Upon investigation by the team present, they find that the bones spell out different words such as "me" and "here" and therefore realize that Selene is in fact with them in the lab in an invisible form. What will become of Kaili and the mystery of Selene? Follow Kaili on her thrilling adventure in the novel "Voice of a Mummy" to find out what will become of her and the mystery surrounding the 4000-year-old curse.
There was nothing to dislike about the novel. It had all the elements that would captivate an audience. I admire the way the characters of the novel were portrayed so realistically. It was relatively easy to follow the different timelines between Selene's era and the present day. The scenes were so vivid that I felt as if I were part of the book and was present in every scene, twist, and turn.
Although the book was enjoyable and had many positive aspects, I found that there were errors in it. The minor faults of misspelled words or missing prepositions have the readers going back to the sentence to try and make sense of it. These flaws in the novel could have been eliminated if the author had taken the time to proofread it.
Overall, it was a great adventure novel to read. Due to the errors encountered, I rate this novel 3 out of 4.
This book is highly recommended to those readers who enjoy a mind-swirling, adventurous novel filled with ghosts, souls, curses, and unexpected twists and turns.
